2020 Mercedes AMG GT Price & Overview
Mercedes upgraded the AMG GT significantly from its last iteration. Unlike the 2019 version, it comes fully equipped with features and design aspects that make it a standout amongst its class. It has new LED head- and taillights, a redesigned rear diffuser, new model-specific exhaust tips, new wheels, and a new Designo color, Brilliant Blue Magno.
It comes with a 12.5-inch instrument cluster along with a 10.3-inch multimedia display. With it, you will also have AMG Drive Unit controls and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration that is now standard. The new AMG GT has a new AMG Track Pace called virtual race engineer COMAND application that will time your lap times. Mercedes offers 7 different trims for the AMG GT. The base price for the new AMG GT comes in under 120000 dollars. The base price for the trims are as follows:
- GT coupe: 116,895 dollars
- GT Roadster: 128,895 dollars
- GT C Coupe: 151,895 dollars
- GT C Roadster: 163,395 dollars
- GT R Coupe: 163,895 dollars
- GT R Roadster: 190,745 dollars
- GT R Pro Coupe: 200,645 dollars
Now with the prices done and dusted let’s take a look under the hood and check out the engine, specs, and performance of the AMG GT.
2020 Mercedes AMG GT Engine, Specs & Performance
All the Mercedes AMG GT, GT C, and GT R are equipped with a 4.0-liter V-8 engine. Mercedes also introduced carbon-fiber driveshaft and a dual-clutch seven-speed automatic transaxle for better handling and balance. The 2020 AMG GT looks like a technological force of nature with it being equipped with dry-sump oiling, direct injection, and two turbochargers. The engine for the GT is touted to produce around 469 HP but it gets amped up when you move to the GT C variants with that those trims having around 550 HP to dish out. The GT R and GT R Pro engine produce even more than that with the car being touted to produce 577 HP.
The GT R Pro also has great balance and grip compared to the GT R with it producing 220 pounds of downforce at 155 mph because of its aerodynamics package. The test driver for the AMG brand Maro Engel said that when he was testing the GT R and GT R Pro he found out that the GT R Pro completed the laps around 6 seconds faster than the GT R. Making the GT R Pro not only the fastest of all the trims but one of the fastest Coupe’s out there on the market today.
The 2020 Mercedes AMG Coupe is a fast car that reaches 0 to 60 within 3.9 seconds with the AMG GT C hitting the 60mph mark in 3.3 seconds. Now the GT R does lose to the 911 S in the quickness with the Coupe from Porsche hitting the 60 mph mark in 3.0 seconds but that doesn’t take away from its amazing overall performance. Now moving on to the fuel economy for the AMG GT and you know that any performance model will be gas guzzlers. However, the 2020 Mercedes AMG GT variants perform well with the overall good fuel economy.
While the Porsche 911 S can give 18 miles in the city and 23 on the highways the AMG GT can only provide you with an economy of 16 MPG in the city and 22 in highways. The GT C models give 15 mpg in the city and 21 in the highways while the GT R and GT R Pro give 15 and 20 mpg respectively. Now that covers the performance section for the AMG GT Coupe now let’s move on to the interior, connectivity and driver safety of the new AMG model.
2020 Mercedes AMG GT Interior, Connectivity & Safety
The technology and function that has been integrated into the 2020 AMG GT Coupe are amazing and Mercedes has upped the quality and upgraded everything within the interior from the previous iteration. While it may not be the most spacious it is perfectly positioned for driving and the comfort level on the seats are exceptional at the very least. It features a 12.3-inch configurable instrument display and a 10.3-inch infotainment screen for your entertainment.
The design is ergonomic this time with a redesigned center console also many of the car controls feature capacitive-touch controls which makes it that much more appealing. The driving mode selector is with the steering wheel like it is supposed to be. Along with that, if you are getting a Roadster then it features a power top that folds in seconds without creating much fuss.
The cargo space for the 2020 Mercedes AMG GT is twice as large as the Porsche 911 S with the new Merc having around 10.1 cubic feet of space in the trunk. Now you may think that the 10.3-inch screen is small but within the compact confines of the AMG GT, it looks big enough. However, the screen isn’t a touchscreen and you would have to control the settings with a knob on the center console. Now you can get a touchpad as an add-on that responds to smartphone gestures like swipe, pinch, and handwriting.
In terms of other connectivity features, you will have Bluetooth audio, two USB ports, a six-month SiriusXM satellite radio subscription, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto capability as standard. Along with that, there is an onboard Wi-Fi option available for those who need it. Onto the safety. Now with a 6-digit price tag, you would think that the 2020 Mercedes AMG GT and its trims would be filled with driver-assist features and onboard safety features but they are not really.
You will find that Front and rear cameras, automatic high-beams, parking sensors, and Mercedes-Benz's Pre-Safe collision-avoidance system come standard. Blind-spot assist and lane-keeping assist are optional for the GT but if you are getting an AMG GT C then it will come standard for you. However, Adaptive cruise control is optional for both models.
The new 2020 Mercedes AMG GT does not have any complimentary scheduled maintenance which is a bit of a bummer. But it does offer 4 years or 50,000 miles of the limited warranty and offers the same 4 years or 50,000 miles on the powertrain which matches its competitors like the 911 S or Audi R8.
